Colorgraphically Speaking Psychology of Teal

It’s Colorgraphically Speaking Sunday!  Color speaks to us consciously and subconsciously.  It is important for you to know how to use the psychology of color to do things like:

  • personal and professional image planning to dress for success
  • choose colors for your brand in order to send the right message
  • evoke desired mood in your home
  • create an appropriate and supportive environment for your place of business
  • and more

Tone is an integral characteristic of color.  Tone means adding grey to pure hue to create colors that are, well, toned.  Could also say knocked-back, greyed-down, muted or dulled.  If you tint hues, then you are adding white to create lighter, pastel colors.

Tint, tone, lightness, darkness – varying characteristics – of color will influence psychological response.  That’s why including different characteristics of color in each Colorgraphically Speaking colorgraph is important.

My favourite colour and interestingly enough, those are all the traits listed above that I aspire to!

    Hi Jil,

Grues are green-blues and bleens are blue-greens. All tints, tones and shades of grues and bleens, from pale turquoise to a deep peacock blue, are typically favored by women. So, Jil, you’re in good company. “Green-blue” is not a technically correct name in color nomenclature but it’s the only way to make the word “grue”. And grue is a fun word so that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

Feedback from my Color Budz Thanks you guys!

"Surely the next step is eBooks?! Lori has written enough to fill tens of books (and then some, I'm sure) and she is the expert's expert: people will pay for this. I would/will. In fact, if you were to ever do courses, I believe I would fly over to the States to attend. You are both fantastic writers and I, for one, am gripped." —Heather Jenkinson, November 15 at 3:31am

"I just like the style you took with this article. It isn't every day that you discover something so to the point and enlightening."

"I simply needed to let you know that I have been enjoying what I have seen and I look forward to reading more."

"I love how you use color on your blog. Using that many colors in a logo or on one page can easily scream cheesy. The way you have used a lot of colors looks fun and classy. Very tasteful and it's obvious that you are a color pro."

"I call Lori the “color scientist” because she’s incredibly knowledgeable about all things related to color and paint"—Ellen Kennon, Full Spectrum Paints

"... And by the way, I thoroughly enjoyed your articulateness, erudition, and devotion to your profession."

"This cast was so informative and helpful. I have been reading color theory books, but to have all of the community and knowledge for a week away will be so helpful to grow in the color world. Thank you for making this series! I can't wait to hear more!"
