A Feng Shui Color Perspective – Guest Post

Have a lovely Guest Post for you today from Arcadian Lighting.

The colors we use in our interior spaces can energize, calm or renew us. Painting your room in red will create a very different mood or feeling than painting the same space in blue. Careful consideration should be given to colors used in our homes when trying to achieve a certain feeling. Color can change the energy to suit the room’s purpose.

We’ve selected interior colors to both energize and renew based on the principles of Feng Shui. While you may not be familiar with the elements associated with the colors on the color wheel, you can easily see that warm, bright colors energize; while cool, soft colors renew our energy. Also give special attention to lighting fixtures as they can play a part in the mood of a room.

Fire Element

The Fire Element colors support passion and high energy. These include reds, oranges, pinks, purples and bright yellows.

Red accents in the throw, accent chair, and pillow give energy to the space. The orange pendant lights on each side complements the overall design of the bedroom.

This all pink bedroom is humming with energy but not in a jarring way. The soft glow from the table lamps also give an energizing glow.

Water Element colors include a spectrum of blues and black that support fresh energy, tranquility and calming energy to renew.

This soft sea blue on the walls is quite calming, while the earth tones (Wood Elements) ground the space. The wall sconces next to the bed adds a soft glow to the relaxing and peaceful space.

Love the soothing color combination of blues, green, purple and brown. Wood Element colors include browns and greens that nourish but also provide energy for vitality and growth.

The soft lichen green of the walls is a soothing, calm color.

Even when a room is decorated in busy patterns, soft blues paired with white and tan create a soothing environment.

Clearly this is an energetic space with a lot of different colors – pinks, red, yellow and green. It would feel very different if the colors were swapped for darker hues of browns and greens. The colors definitely mesh well together and made the space looks fun without being too whimsical.

The soft lichen colour is beautifully restful. I like to use a similar colour from NCS 2005-G60Y.

Feedback from my Color Budz Thanks you guys!

"Surely the next step is eBooks?! Lori has written enough to fill tens of books (and then some, I'm sure) and she is the expert's expert: people will pay for this. I would/will. In fact, if you were to ever do courses, I believe I would fly over to the States to attend. You are both fantastic writers and I, for one, am gripped." —Heather Jenkinson, November 15 at 3:31am

"I just like the style you took with this article. It isn't every day that you discover something so to the point and enlightening."

"I simply needed to let you know that I have been enjoying what I have seen and I look forward to reading more."

"I love how you use color on your blog. Using that many colors in a logo or on one page can easily scream cheesy. The way you have used a lot of colors looks fun and classy. Very tasteful and it's obvious that you are a color pro."

"I call Lori the “color scientist” because she’s incredibly knowledgeable about all things related to color and paint"—Ellen Kennon, Full Spectrum Paints

"... And by the way, I thoroughly enjoyed your articulateness, erudition, and devotion to your profession."

"This cast was so informative and helpful. I have been reading color theory books, but to have all of the community and knowledge for a week away will be so helpful to grow in the color world. Thank you for making this series! I can't wait to hear more!"
